Mother’s Day Gift Guide

mothers_day_gift_ideas

Mother’s Day is coming up fast. It’ll be nice to take the time to make a Mom feel special for all the laundry, home-cooked meals, and much needed advice she has given us over the years.  Take a peek at our selection of creative and memorable gift ideas that will surely make mom smile!

Create a Scrapbook

This is something your mom can hang onto and show off as an awesome keepsake. It can include pictures, quotes about moms and/or pieces of advice your mom has given you, artifacts like pieces of a quilt that she made or pictures you made as a kid, written down memories, information about her favorite foods, recipes, vacations, music, etc. Make it fun, but most of all, make it about her! It doesn’t have to be extravagant or artsy as long as it’s got heart. Scrapbook or craft stores will have everything you need to make your mom a keepsake she’ll truly enjoy.

Make a CD

Most computers have the ability to burn CDs with music. Grab some of your mom’s favorite songs and load them up on a CD.  Maybe include a few that were popular when you were born? For extra credit, you could personalize the cover of the CD and even decorate the jewel case.

Replace Candy with a Memory Jar

memory-jar-1

Write out some of your best memories (a dozen or more) of mom or grandma on small pieces of pretty paper. Include things you’ve done together, favorite family traditions, things she’s done or said that made a difference to you, the best advice she’s given you. Fold them and put them into a jar so that she can “munch on them” over time.  People are often surprised at your best memories of them. You’ll be surprised at how much sharing these memories means to mom or grandma.

Kitchen Herb Garden

Another garden idea is to plant a kitchen herb garden. This is a fabulous gift for a mom who loves to cook. Not only will she have beautiful herbal plants (many of which bloom and have lovely flowers) but the fragrance and bounty for cooking is perfect! You can also plant these in boxes or small beds outside the house. Check your geographical zone to find out what grows in the areas where you live

A Basket of Moms Favorite Things

Buy a pretty basket and stuff it full of your Moms favorite stuff like: Tea, chocolate, wine, coffee, snacks, confections, makeup, books, bookmarks, gift cards, a framed picture of the kids- so on and so forth. Tie the basket off with a pretty ribbon and voila! It’s a personalized, thoughtful gift that she will surely cherish.

Easter Basket Gift Ideas | Cute Beltz

DSC_0477With Easter just a few days away why not add something more than candy to your kid’s basket.  Check out some of your ideas for making your child’s Easter basket fun, creative, and unique.

Gift Baskets for Toddlers

Toddlers are just beginning to learn about Easter and what it means to receive an Easter basket. Keep it simple with brightly colored plastic eggs. In the case of toddlers, you don’t need to fill the eggs with anything because anything small enough to fit in an egg can be considered a choking hazard. In addition to plastic eggs, you can include Easter themed soft books, building blocks and stuffed animals.

Gift Baskets for Preschoolers

When filling an Easter basket for a preschooler, first, think about what kind of container you’d like to use. Certainly a traditional basket works well, but there are lots of other treat holders you can use. Consider filling up something that your little one can play with or put to use later like:

  • beach pail
  • big pocketbook
  • play grocery cart
  • Coloring books
  • jewelry box
  • puzzles
  • bubbles
  • chalk
  • bicycle helmet

Preschoolers and Elementary Kids

If your little one is head over heels for craft projects and coloring an excellent idea is to arts and crafts themed Easter Basket full of special goodies. Crayons and coloring books are a must. Include items such as markers, finger paint and/or paint and paintbrushes. You can’t forget the construction paper in a variety of wonderful colors.

All Ages

From infant to teenager, books are perfect Easter-basket filler.  This may be a clichéd but the truth is that books are one of the best gifts that you can ever give to children on any occasion. Books help to develop a habit of reading in children that they can pick up as a hobby. Reading helps to expand the mind and creates a sense of curiosity and thirst to find out more. For toddlers you may want to choose cloth books or board books with thick pages and bright colorful pictures. Preschool and early elementary students enjoy books about animals, other children or their favorite television characters. For older children and teens, pick the newest book in a series they enjoy or a subscription to a favorite magazine.

Easter Chicks Deviled Egg Recipe

egg_chicks

Are you looking for something different to do with your eggs on Easter? How about making them into these cute little Easter Chicks?  They are rather simple to make and cheap too.

To make deviled eggs start by first boiling them. The best way to make boiled eggs is to put 12 in the bottom of a 3 quart pan.  Cover with water (have the water about 1 inch over the eggs).  With the lid off bring the eggs to a boil once they have reached a FULL rolling boil, let them boil for 2 minutes.  Turn the heat off, put the lid on and let them stand for 15 minutes.  Once 15 minutes has passed take them out and put them in an ice bath cooling them, so you can then peel them.

Once you have all 12 eggs peeled, cut a SMALL section off the wide end, this will create a flat surface so the eggs can stand up and not roll on the plate.  Carefully remove the yolks, being careful not to tear the whites. (This will take a bit of patience.) Collect all of the yolks into a small mixing bowl and add the mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and vinegar. Mix until smooth.

To make a really creamy filling, use a fork and mash the yolk up as fine as you can make it. Then mix in the mayo and a little salt (to taste) until it has a consistency of pudding. At this point, it’s still a bit gritty though. So scoop the entire mixture into a gallon-sized Ziploc and knead the baggie just as if it were dough! Spend a good 15 to 20 minutes squishing the baggie until it’s super creamy like frosting.   To fill the egg white halves from the baggie, just cut the corner of the baggie and squeeze the bag, applying it to the egg halves like squeezing icing onto a cake.

To make the Chicks eyes cut a small pickle length wise , into 4 thin strips.  Then cut those thin strips into even smaller section to create a little eye.  Do the same thing to a baby carrot, but cut the 4 thin strips into a triangle shape for the chicks beak. Place the top of the egg back on at an angle so you can see the chicks face.  Add the eyes and beak and you are done.

Holiday Cookies.. Oh What Fun It Is To Decorate | Cute Beltz

I absolutely love making holiday cookies with my girls.  It is tradition in our house to make them for “Santa” each Christmas.  We use our cookie cutters of snowmen, angels, Christmas trees, etc. each year.  Most times, I don’t decorate.  I have to admit, I don’t have the crafty hand at designing cookies, but I am going to give it another try and take my time this year.  Checkout out theses cool cookies, love how creative people are for the holidays.
