One of my favorite Summer Reading Programs is through Barnes and Noble. The program is for children in grades 1-6 and is a wonderful time to encourage your children to read to earn the reward of a FREE book.
This has been a consistent summer event for my children which they have enjoyed over the years. Sadly, my oldest will age out this year so although it is bitter-sweet, we are very happy with the selections of books we have been rewarded with throughout the years.

We have all been aware that Back to School is coming!! Well, for some it is here! Running across your social media timelines, TV, radio, newspapers you have watched Back to School sales and suggestions for the last 2 months and if you are like me, I just didn’t want to hear anything about school. I needed a break. So, now we are in the thick of it, can you say you are ready?
This year, I decided this is how I’m rolling:
Recycle last years supplies. Some of the notebooks they barely used and some of their folders are in great condition. Fewer items I have to purchase, whoo!!
They definitely need new book bags because those take a beating every year, but what they don’t need is lunch boxes! I purchased from Lands End last year and I must say, the quality was great and they can withstand another year.
Now that my kids are getting older, I will be purchasing the essential supplies to get them through the first week of school. Why? I am waiting for the REAL list to come home from each teacher. Every year, there is always something additional that needs to be purchased so I’m waiting….(in limbo).
What do you think? Am I onto something? What have you learned over the years? Are you in limbo like me or do you say FORGET IT and purchase everything new every year?
Here’s to an awesome School Year, Parents! – Cute Beltz
As parents some of us find it difficult to start saving. Many of us have 401K/403B plans through our jobs so we believe that’s saving or some think how can I possibly save any money, there’s never any left over?!?!?!?!? As parents we need a rainy day fund, especially if you have a children, a car, a house or WHATEVER!!! There will always be a time when the unexpected happens.
I started saving early in life, so I was able to buy my first home at 28 years old. I knew I wanted to own a piece of real estate because it had always been a goal. I saved my tax returns every year for three years and I was able to amass enough money for my down payment. I know that’s not for everyone, but I set a goal and went for “the dream.” I am now older, have children, run a small business and I am crazy busy (like all of us). I am not as diligent in saving so when these tools were presented to me, I jumped on them. I have been using these tools over the last few months, they have worked for me and it has removed the “savings worry” from my thoughts.
