VERY Cool DIY Kids Halloween Costumes

Yay, Halloween is coming and all the VERY cool costumes. I am especially fond of the creative DIY costumes that are created each year by awesome parents everywhere.  I on the other hand, find myself at Party City grabbing a costume.  Booooo for me. 😦  Last year a friend created a Ghostbusters costume for his daughter with the proton pack. It was one of the best costumes I saw last year.  I can’t wait to see what her dad creates this year, I know it will be awesome. Here are a few of our favorite finds from Pinterest.

How far in advance do you start planning for summer travel? Where are you going this summer? Will it be your first visit or is this an annual trip?

18 Things That Happen When You Become a Mom

Very cute and pretty accurate list of things that happen when you become a mom. Number 14 is dead on, I swear my purse has become anything, but mine. Number 15, I don’t agree with, my kids have always had great manners(it’s true, people tell me all the time!) 🙂

Red Tricycle

Who is this person taking over your body? It’s the new you — that’s who. Parenthood will change anybody in funny, wild and wonderful ways. Here are 18 things that happen.

1. You call everyone under four feet tall “sweetheart” or “sweetie.”

2. You rarely get to have all of your desert to yourself. Everyone wants a bite.

3. You swear you’re not scatterbrained … and then you realize you walked out the door wearing your leggings inside out and tried to unlock your car with a pacifier.

4. Something will inevitably break. Something important like your great-great grandmother’s 18th-century tea set.

5. You’ve learned how to turn the most simple and cheap things (like a plain ol’ bucket of water) into hours of afternoon fun.

Every year, as my children get older I plan for Back to School earlier and earlier. This year, I have created a Back to School bookmark on my tablet to include an array of subjects and food is a top priority.  This year, I plan not to be stumped by dinner, so this Momma is getting prepared.  I found these crockpot recipes on BlogHer and they look yummy! Thanks “A Cedar Spoon” blog for this great list, 35 Back to School Crockpot Recipes.  Added to the list, now onto the next Back to School item, book bags! 🙂

Fireworks, a Parade & More: 4th of July Family Activities

I love the 4th of July, most of all I love fireworks. As a child, growing up in Detroit we always had the best shows and to date they are still awesome! As a New Yorker for the last 14 years, I look forward to the Macy’s Fireworks and all the festivities in NYC. Here are some of the holiday happenings via Red Tricycle. Enjoy!

Red Tricycle

Independence Day in NYC focuses on one major event, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. And there’s good news for Brooklyn this year – the show is moving back to the East River with entertainment at the Brooklyn Bridge. But there are other ways to celebrate July 4th in the city. Keep reading to get details on the only parade in the 5 boroughs, how to survive the fireworks with kids in tow and other family-friendly Independence Day events.

The Macy’s Fireworks

While seeing the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks live is at the top of many kids’ bucket lists, it’s not exactly an easy event for families to navigate. Your kids will be staying up way past their bedtimes and unless you get invited to view the show at someone’s apartment with a sweet city view, they’ll have to spend a long time sitting or standing around waiting.

Simply put, seeing the fireworks in person…
