Q: I am traveling with a 3 and a 5 year old on an airplane, what items should I take with me to keep them entertained. I am afraid they may end up being the kids no one wants to sit next to, any advice?
A: As a mother with two kids and who has traveled many places with her children, there are some key items you must have when venturing into the world of travel with kids.
1. DVD Player with headphones! – Nobody will want to listen to Dora and Diego on their adventures. Tip: they make a plugin for headphones with dual headphone plugins, make sure to get this attachment because you will have two headsets. Take at least five movies, kids can often change their mind in the middle of a movie and request something new. Tip: Let them pick two movies each, make the 5th movie a surprise, maybe go buy something they haven’t watched.
3. Gaming System – A Leapster, Mobigo, etc. will keep them busy and quiet. Make sure to take at least two games and download a few new games from the gaming systems website, this will give them a new challenge which provides you with peace and quiet.
Hope these tips help. Traveling with children is always an adventure, you never know what will happen.
My baby celebrated her birthday today and I always like to do things, somewhat different, so I decided to take all the kids to see Madagascar. We went to see the first movie which cost $6.00 per person(before 12pm in NY), total $102.00. It was a hoot, kids laughed and had a fun time singing and just genuinely enjoyed the movie.
Initially, we were going to go to McDonald’s for lunch, but I started thinking about the parents and I thought we deserved something other than McD’s, so I began my search for something that would be cost-effective. My go to app, The Coupons App was my first stop and was the last. Chili’s Restaurant is offering a kids eat free deal with multiple redemptions per table(ends today 6.27, sorry!). I was excited because I found a great deal, plus I was saving money. There were 17 people in our party and I paid $109.00(includes tax & tip) for all of us to eat. Can you say great deal!!! Total cost, $211.00(movie+restaurant), not bad when you compare to Little Gym, etc. So, when you plan your child’s next birthday party and you plan to eat at a restaurant, know that you do not have to spend a fortune if you do a little research first!
Love to hear what great cost saving ideas you have come up for your kid’s birthday parties?

Being a mother is the greatest gift I have been given. Yesterday, although my oldest daughter was getting over a cold, it was a beautiful day. It was a day filled with homemade cards, flowers, breakfast in bed and all three meals cooked by my hubby! He, also cleaned up, so that was an extra BONUS!
I relaxed, watched a few movies with my girls and just did what I wanted to do. A perfect day for this Mom.
